Not entirely. I think in many ways the church has forgotten its main mission and orders to accomplish that task: Wait for power, then become Jesus’ witnesses.

There are programs for evangelism out there. Do you know how many evangelism programs there are? I don’t. We don’t need another program. We need to wait upon the Lord. And when we wait, we don’t know what is going to happen, right? It’s scary, feels like we are losing control. But God is in control when we are not. In fact, we have to give
up control so he can be seen in us.

How do we do this as a church?

           1. Focus on Christ, watching for His leading.

           a. first we must evangelize the evangelists. We must get the
spirit ourselves, before we have power to share with others.
Eph. 4:11-13. the purpose of the gift of evangelists to the
church, is to equip the church… all of us!

           b. Get rid of distractions, things that keep us from focusing on Christ,
like worry over who will wait tables, etc. like the early church in Acts.

           2. Listen to God’s voice, coming through the wisdom of the body.

a. How does God speak to you? How does God speak to a congregation? We have to tune out all other voices and distractions, then tuned into God. Hearing from God amidst all the other voices is a skill to be learned, but it can be learned with practice, like Samuel listening in the night, getting eli’s advice and saying, “Yes, here I am Lord.”

b. In the unlikely voices, listen for God’s voice; often it is the
lone, different, even annoying voice that is God speaking. Listen
and be open to someone else giving a message rather
