time. It is a life and death matter. Or at least that is what the jailer who was watching Paul and Silas thought.

27When the jailer woke up and saw the prison doors wide open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, since he supposed that the prisoners had escaped. 28But Paul shouted in a loud voice, “Do not harm yourself, for we are all here.” 29The jailer called for lights, and rushing in, he fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. 30Then he brought them outside and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

To Paul and to Silas, there was no one else more important than that jailer at that moment. His life was about to end. He was going to kill himself rather than face his own shame with his boss at having such high profile prisoners escape under his watch; he could never live it down.

Here are the most common excuses we have in America for NOT Sharing the Good News of Christ with others:

  • People do not want to hear about my religion.

  • I see faith as a personal thing; I don’t want to push my faith on others.

  • I am not qualified to share about being a Christian. I might mess it up and give the wrong advice.

  • Someone else like the pastor will share it the right way.

  • It’s not my gifting to share my faith; let the evangelists do it.

  • I never know what to say.

  • How do I know this person is not saved? I don’t want to appear judgmental.

  • Jesus works for me, but I have to respect that everyone comes to God on their own, some through Buddha, some through Jesus, some through Mohammed, and some through
